Nestled in the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountains of California, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks showcase truly awe-inspiring natural wonders. Prepare to venture into these two breathtaking national parks and immerse yourself in nature on the grandest scale.

Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park attracts visitors with its towering sequoia groves. Home to the General Sherman Tree and other ancient giants, the park offers a chance to reconnect with nature's magnificence on a large scale. Upon entering the park, be sure to grab a park map to make your way around, as there is little to no cell phone service while in the park.

General Sherman

If you ever find yourself in Sequoia National Park, you must make sure to see General Sherman. The Sherman Tree Trail leads you to witness the grandeur of the world-famous General Sherman Tree. This is a fairly easy, paved trail is approximately half a mile long and winds through a serene forest of towering sequoias. There are some stairs, and the entire walk back is uphill, so keep this in mind. As you make your way along the trail, you finally arrive at the awe-inspiring sight of the General Sherman Tree, the largest living tree on Earth (measured by volume). Standing at over 275 feet tall and boasting a massive girth, this ancient giant inspires a sense of awe and reverence for the power of nature.

As you explore further along this trail, you can see remnants of burnt trees from wildfires in years past, the Congress Tree Trail, and even explore a some log tunnels that my daughter particularly enjoyed. The Sherman Tree Trail provides an unforgettable encounter with nature's majesty and creates a profound appreciation for the remarkable Sequoia trees that call this place their home.

Gamlin Cabin and General Grant

Grant Grove is another sanctuary of towering sequoia trees located within the park that envelop visitors in a sense of awe. Along this trek, you will encounter the legendary General Grant Tree, this is the second largest tree in the world. Also hidden within Grant Grove is the historic Gamlin Cabin, which stands as a testament to the area's rich history. This rustic log cabin was built in the 1870's and provides a window into the past, allowing visitors to imagine the early settlers' lives in the presence of these ancient giants. Grant Grove and the Gamlin Cabin offer a tranquil escape and a profound connection to the remarkable heritage of Sequoia National Park.

Crescent Meadow

As you wander through the Crescent Meadow, you'll be captivated by its lush greenery, vibrant wildflowers, and tranquil ambiance. Surrounded by the famous towering sequoia trees, the meadow creates a peaceful retreat, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. Keep an eye out for wildlife sightings, as deer and other creatures often grace the meadow with their presence. We saw a bear in this meadow during one of our visits, so always be sure to be aware of your surroundings.
