Jeune Et Jolie: Michelin Star Dining Experience

Located off the most charming and lively little street in Carlsbad, California, Jeune Et Jolie is a culinary gem. Boasting one Michelin Star, Jeune Et Jolie invites visitors on a unique and unforgettable dining experience.

The atmosphere of Jeune Et Jolie is both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, without feeling too "fancy".  People dine around you with a casual air, and there is element of excitement at each table over the meal to come. The décor is simple, yet tastefully chosen and it compliments the overall elegance of the entire experience. Once you are seated, you are greeted by knowledgeable and attentive staff who understand the menu well, no matter who you are speaking to. My waiter also took the time to get to know my name, which I thought was a nice touch. All staff members are willing to take the time to guide you through the menu and offer insightful recommendations based on your taste preferences. Upon bringing out each course, you are given a complete description of the dish as well as the best way to go about eating it, which made me feel better as a first-timer.

Now, let’s look at the main attraction of Jeune Et Jolie: the cuisine. The menu is supposed to incorporate French culinary traditions while also including locally sourced ingredients and changes seasonally. Each dish is beautifully presented with an attention to detail that delights both the eyes and the palate. Here are the courses I enjoyed (with photos, of course):

Palate Starter: Amuse Bouche (Avocado + Yuzu). This was eaten in one bite and had an incredible amount of flavor.

Un: Crabe (Snow Crab, Verjus, Kohlrabi, Shiso). The flavors in this dish were incredible, although I wish the bread came before this to soak up the sauces.

Complimentary Milk Bread + Butter. This bread was decadently soft and heavenly. Yes, I did save half of it for future sauces.

Deux: Saumon (Salmon, Asparagus, Ramp, Green Tomato). This dish was all about an amazing texture in addition to its immaculate flavor.

Trois: Poisson (Sea Bass,  Spinach, Saffron, Vanilla, Warm Spices). This dish was so comforting, and the sea bass melted right in your mouth.

Quatre: Printemps (Sweet Pea, Blackberry, Elderflower). This had a unique flavor and texture throughout and was topped with sweet pea ice cream.

Complimentary Passionfruit Macaron. Wow, just wow!

Grasshopper (Creme de Cacao, Miso, Menthe Pastille, PX Sherry, Cream). One of the best cocktails I have ever had.

Golden Cadillac (Grapefruit, Pastis, Bergamot, Vanilla, Cream). Smooth and sweet.

In essence, Jeune Et Jolie is a bucket list stop for any discerning food lover in the San Diego area, and an excellent first-time Michelin star experience. Whether you’re looking to celebrate something special or simply have a memorable dining experience, Jeune Et Jolie is sure to exceed your expectations.
