Just driving around Lake Tahoe offers breathtaking views from all angles. When we spent time by the lake, we walked along the shores and enjoyed the views from the boardwalk of South Lake Tahoe. There were many beach areas and restaurants to choose from as well. A few days later during our trip, we launched our kayak on the lake for a while. The lake is really large, so we soon discovered that there was not much to see while on the kayak unless we were prepared to kayak all day long. My boyfriend jumped in for a quick swim, but the water was still pretty cold (considering the snow was still melting!) Next time we visit, I would like to rent a boat or do a tour on the lake, as some of the coves in the area looked extremely peaceful.

Following the snow melt of the winter season, Lake Tahoe is filled with beautiful waterfalls that add to its natural splendor. We stopped by Eagle Falls on our trip, which was easily accessible along the road and was raging due to all of the snowmelt. Some other well-known waterfalls in the area include Horsetail Falls and Cascade Falls, which we did not get to visit during our trip. Captivating waterfalls such as this provide a serene escape and an opportunity to connect with the stunning beauty of Lake Tahoe's natural wonders.

If you find yourself in Lake Tahoe, I would highly recommend you make a stop at the Donner Memorial and Museum. A visit to the Donner Memorial, located in in Truckee, offers a reflective and educational experience for the whole family. The memorial serves as a reminder of the tragic journey of the Donner Party pioneers and includes a very informative museum that gives a lot of background information on what happened here. Amidst seemingly picturesque surroundings, visitors can learn about the challenges faced by the Donner Party and gain insight into their resilience and perseverance. Follow the trail to the plaque, located on the rock that served as the Donners' fireplace. This was definitely a thought-provoking visit that honors the memory of those who endured unimaginable hardships.

(Fun Fact: The statue located near the Donner camp reflects how high the snow levels were the year the Donner Party was stuck there.)
